SCGIS Conference 2008
|
| Message
from the SCARC President: -
Tim Oliver On behalf of the Conference Committee, great thanks go to you who attended the SCGIS 2008 Conference in Greenville, South Carolina. I do not think anyone could have anticipated the beautiful weather. The sessions were very informative and professionally presented. I noticed an increased interaction in the sessions as never before. I found this to be a positive sign that GIS is alive and well in South Carolina. I look forward to another stellar year. Many thanks to Bill Hogue for his leadership of SCARC over the past year. The response and involvement witnessed in this years conference is in many ways a result of his leadership of SCARC. Thanks again. |

| SC GIS Conference,
Greenville, SC Feb 4 -6, 2008 - Bill Hogue, SCARC President
2007/2008 What a great conference!!! With over 460 registered attendees and speakers, our "South Carolina and GIS Growing Together" Conference was the largest GIS conference ever conducted in this state! And, thanks to many hard working volunteers and committee members, I think this was the most educational and instructive conference we have ever had. Add to that the great vendors and sponsors, and an excellent facility and we were able to provide networking time for all that attended. I want to give special thanks to the committee that worked on this conference for almost one year. They are all volunteers who are successful, professional workers who are dedicated to providing better information for all to use, especially the decision makers that we all support in one way or another. Those volunteers include: Brian Fitzgerald and Lynn Shirley Program Cindy Masi, Crys Rathburn, and Tina Davis - Registration Mark DePenning Local Host and GAASC Frank Bishop AV and GAASC Jim Kiley Web site, posters, and Evening Event Ed Yankowski ESRI Rep Greg Thacker, and Cindy Masi Vendors Greg Thacker and David Garber Workshops Bill Addison - Scholarships Tim Oliver GAASC and President- Elect Mike Okupinski Treasurer and Evening Event Kat Brenkert Secretary Cole McKinney and Lynn Shirley SMAC I think I speak for all those and many others who helped to say we enjoyed doing this; we hope you all enjoyed all the conference; and we all look forward to our next conference as we continue to grow GIS in South Carolina. Finally, my most sincere thanks for all the help and support all of you have given me and SCARC in the past year and I know you will do the same for Tim Oliver and his committee for the next year. Thanks for attending and see all next year! Bring a Friend!!! |

| Mardi Gras Memories - Jim Kiley | |
| We had Mardi Gras in Greenville! I had a
great time at the party and everyone else appeared to also. We had in excess of 150 people
at Mardi Gras who were entertained by the classic rok band "Moxie". Moxie did a
great job. I especially enjoyed the Fleetwood Mac songs. Talking with many, they enjoyed
hearing "old" songs they had not heard in a long time. Good memories! I was
impressed with the participation at the party. I mentioned during the LifeSaver game that
if we could work together like this in the game that we can do the impossible with GIS in
South Carolina. This is true! You were truly impressive. I hope you enjoy the Mardi
Gras pictures and thank you again for making Mardi Gras Greenville a great time.
